Power, Greed and Sex
Why do people do “bad” things as generally recognized by society? The detailed reasons are legion – I’m going to get even, I was disrespected, I was cheated, my marriage is not fun anymore, I really don’t want this child, I’m tired of this situation, I want wealth, I want dominance, I want blah, blah, blah. This list is without limit. A casual classification of all entries in this list, and perhaps your own list, identifies three basic classes or headings: Power, Greed and Sex. I challenge the reader to come up with yet a fourth classification.
But if you dig a little deeper looking for an all-encompassing, overriding dominating motivation – like the TOE principle in Physics, the Theory Of Everything – you will come up with Pride. Notice how so many things in my miniscule list of bad things start with “I”. The “I” is you, your ego. You want to put yourself ahead of all others in the satisfaction of your goals and desires. Others should bow to you and your desires. I am first. Get behind me. And this “first in line” will include your God as secondary to your desires. Can you imagine the chaotic nature of society if everyone puts themselves first in line? We are not too far away from this chaos
